Share Your Kenduskeag Stories & Yarns

My blog is going into hibernation until March, 2009.

In the meantime, I invite you to read through all of the archived blog entries and associated comments.

And please share (via comments) your favorite canoe race experiences, memories, anecdotes or observations whether you paddled the Kenduskeag or were a vulture. From any year.

I'll check in from time to time and I will compile your stories for posterity in the Kenduskeag website for next year.

Later days, amigos! Keep your paddle in the water.

My first time ever in a canoe was this past Monday. Did the race today, got dumped 3 times at 6 mile falls. Made it through the rest of the race relatively dry. Dressed in Hawaiian garb, paddling with a good friend, getting soaked and muddy has got to be the best way to spend a Saturday. Can't wait for next year

I once watched these two young women paddle down the Shopping Cart area in the pouring rain. They were doing OK just as they reached the rapids but then there was a sudden bump and the bow of the canoe lifted upwards and the young woman in the bow launched upwards like a rocket. I mean, literally. She just popped up like a champagne cork and then fell out into the rapids. Her partner was distressed but they were OK.

Kenduskeag was a blast. Loved talking to all the paddlers along the way and thanks to all who cheered on the "flower power" kayak. You gave me lots of energy :)

Had a great race this year. Plenty of water and couldn't ask for better weather! We managed to survive the bigger rapids (Six-Mile, Shopping Cart, ect.) but we did swim once after we got complacent and hit a small ledge somewhere between Six-Mile and the finish. Hey, you gotta dump the canoe at least once so your friends have something to laugh about after the race!

First time for my daughter ,Dr. K Cole and I to do a canoe together(we were the Paddle faster I THINK I HEAR BANJOS team that everyone hummed along to as we passed)-THANK YOU for the miles of support. We ended dry and content though near middle rather than in beginning as we had visioned. LIVE and LEARN! GREAT time-Thank you ALL! Jack Cole/Nebraska (long flight BUT WORTH EVERY stroke)

I would one of the members of the canoe that managed to go over 6 mile falls submerged and backwards yet still afloat by our redneck version of float bags AND THEN dumped because I had to celebrate! It was my first time (OBVIOUSLY!) and I am still sore! Would love to see any pictures if anyone got any of my six mile falls (legsofsilk@yahoo.com)! And Michael I'll be submitting my order for the great photos at shopping cart!
