Paddler boy. Its true we didnt well but hell we had a good time. I'm surprised the 3 girls I went with still want to go next year! I must admit, it was pretty dumb to think 4 peeps could make it down the falls, especially with no flotation. My monkey was decapitated! The falls were insane!
By the way
LOST
Black bag with camera, air horn still floating last time I saw it!
Mike A: A lost & found post may be helpful! I checked with Bangor parks & rec, they had nothing!
Be good yall, can't wait for the pics...

I lost a green tripper at six mile today and it is still MIA. The number was 421 if anyone remembers it kicking around.

There was stuff way after the race at the park above Flour Mill. I saw that 421 on land somewhere (not in the woods!)

There is also a bunch of stuff about 100 yds downriver from Six Mile Bridge on river right. Boats and paddles... I spent a few minutes retreiving stuff.

We were portage monkeys and river weenies. Only had to bail a bout 3 quarts on the go. Didnt do Six Mile and instead ported instead. Glad we did; the pile up on the left channel was amazing. We stopped at the end of the port to watch empty boat after empty boat spit out and eventually one occupied boat.

Lost and found. the first place I would start would be flour mill damn if you think your boat made it that far. however they usually have a motor boat in the stream fishing boats off to the side. when I dumped at six mile falls two years ago my boat wound up on the rocks right in front of a womans house on finson road. check with the home owners along the river and see if they have seen anything. that would be the best help I could give.

We got cleaned out at the washingmachine but bailed and continued for our fastest time in 18 years. All our gear is intact, but we DO have a camo-backed black-handed glove plucked from water below 6MF, if anyone is looking. Tried to save #82 red deck/white bottom kayak at next drop but almost fully submerged. Later, also tried to save a medium green shorter canoe with gash/dented bow and flanneled canteen floating attached doing the capsized 'Poseidon Adventure' maneuver. Again, sucking too much water to get it to shore before we had to negotiate next rapids. Hope you folks get your gear back and are running KSCR next year!

Hey paddlers!

The crew of the SS Gumby deserve a big hand for rescuing a hypothermic paddler about 1/4 mile below 6MF. I believe one of the four must have escorted the guy back to the falls, because there were only 3 in boat at the end. This guy was so far gone he'd not have been able to take care of himself.

canoe went a sailin' down the stream and nobody was able to retrieve it and it was nowhere to be seen well after the race, what would you do? I`ve had this happen to my canoe before and here`s what I did: 1. you wait for whoever finds it to call you because you put your contact info somewhere visible in the canoe. 2. If you don`t get a call soon or even if you do , you go looking for the canoe along the river downstream from where it left you. 3.If canoe stays gone for a week or more , put an ad in the local paper regarding the lost boat. 4.Always be on the lookout for your canoe on the top of someone elses car. 5.Post here on this blog, to let your friends know you have a missing boat. 6. Hope for a favourable outcome , but be prepared to replace the lost canoe. It took a while but I got my canoe back.

I my tripper (421) hung up in an Island just below bullseye. I've got to be the luckiest S.O.B. alive. My wallet, cell, and keys were all safe and dry. The canoe was virtually unscathed. I had to go for a swim to get it but damn am I happy I don't have to buy a new one.

And there is a Blue kayak maybe a 9 footer up high on the right side of the shore at 1982 broadway bangor...someone who did not own it drug it about 20 feet up the bank so it is hard to see.

You have to walk down the hill through the field to the river approximatly 200 yards to the river..this is real close to six mile falls...(below)

Don't know if this sounds possible or not, but on our way home after awards yesterday, we saw something big and red floating down the Penobscot close to the Orrington town landing. It looked like an upside down canoe/kayak, could this really have made it from the race???

My dad and I lost our canoe today. It was a red old town camper. I'm pretty sure our number ripped off (we dumped at six mile falls). It has 5 or 6 Kenduskeag stickers on both the bow and the stern, ranging from 1987 or 88 to 2006. It's a little longer than 16 feet. Maybe 16' 2". I searched all over and had no luck, but if you happen to come across it or have any information regarding our boat, please email me at bjorncarey@yahoo.com. Thank you so much, and great job to all you paddlers that finished!

A big thanks to Paddler Boy Patrick. Also, as I'm asking for help here, I remember seeing what looked like a green discovery a couple hundred yards downstream of Bullseye Bridge on the rightside of the river. It was stuck on a small grassy rock, upside down and mostly underwater. I couldn't get close enough to see a number, but if you're looking for a green canoe that might be good place to start your search.

Shopping Cart slapped me around pretty good. I lost my spray skit for my old town predator. It's black canvas and is made for the large, one person loon/predator. It may have sunk with my sunglasses, but if any one sees it, sockwell@mmtc.ws I kept ahold of my paddle and boat, and thanks again to the rescue people that pulled me to shore and allowed me to finish the race!

I think next year instead of trying to paddle the race I will stick in the river and try to rescue stuff out.

For Anonymous, I think #31 may be pressed against a tree under the bridge (river left) at 6 Mile Falls. I saw a red canoe bump the tree, turn sideways, and sink before anyone could get to it. It won't be able to be pulled out until the water has receded a little.

Also, my husband (a paddler) found a paddle floating and pulled it into his kayak. If you're missing one, you can email us at wemmons1@maine.rr.com.

I've heard of canoes, particularly the oltonar/royalex types, getting all the way down Penobscot to Bucksport and Winterport, Frankfort, etc. So make a wide search! Especially when posting 'wanted' messages in newspapers, etc. I'm betting good old "uncle henry's" could be a good venue, either paper or electronic form!

Just a quick thanks to Mark Savage and his bowwoman for throwing me a line after dumping at washingmachine. Anyone else who dumped there got there 'moment of fame' recorded by Mike A and probably got pulled out by Mark and company in the yellow banana boat. Check out pics #120-130 for proof that my hat did NOT get wet during my dump! Go figure.

While looking (unsuccessfully) for my kayak Saturday afternoon for many hours, I was walking the river between the trailer park/finson road area. There are old access trails / atv trails that you can get to by walking downriver at the end of pushaw road. I saw 7 crafts along my mile or so walk, 6 of which looked retrievable with a few men and ropes. Some on this side some on the Rte 15 side. Green or Red crafts only. I didnt have my binoculars on so I couldnt read numbers (and I was looking for my blue kayak and was barefoot and alone so I didnt venture down into the water too far).

if you need any more info, feel free to email me (pointviper@yahoo.com) or call 664-0060. I can point it out on a Delorme MAP if unclear above.

ONE MORE THING.....call Bangor Park and Rec. Before I went walking the river on sunday, I went to Bangor Park and Rec building on Sunday and happened to catch a worker going in to the building. I described my kayak and some awesome people had retreived it and turned it in. Im not sure if it made it to the end or whoever pulled it out before, but THANK YOU to whomever did.

They had three other crafts next to mine (2 canoes and one single seat kayak). I didn't see any numbers on them.

Want to save time getting your boat back next year? Install air bags. They don't add a lot of weight, are easy to put in and take out and don't cost that much, BUT will save you a lot of headaches and most likely your canoe or kayak. You can get them at the Ski Rack, Old Town Canoe, Maine Sport or online at NRS.com. Also, don't be affraid to ask an experienced racer. There is generally a race every weekend throughout the state of Maine, so stop buy, watch and ask questions, then come back and enjoy the fun. Hope to see you on the water. PJ Lunt / kayak racer

Went today to retrieve our canoe #345, but someone else must have gotten it. I know parks & rec isn't responsible for lost canoes, but we were told by 2 different P&R guys with walkie talkies that they would be collecting lost canoes and bringing them to a warehouse on Monday. It is clear that never happened. We would have done a more extensive search if they hadn't said that...

On the enclosed map, I walked from the Sewage Disposal area at the end of Pushaw Road to the B in BANGOR (where the rapid water picks up again). Along that 1/2 mile or so you can get a good look at the river. I saw the 7 crafts stuck in there on Saturday. Bring binoculars. Good luck.

My first time floating the KSCR so I'm unfamiliar with the landmarks, but my partner and I T-rescued two canoes that were floating downstream upside down but undamaged somewhere well below 6-Mile Falls, towed them to river left, and left them tied to trees. My memory is fuzzy but I think the first one was red (#361) and the second was green(#452). Someone said we were below "the old bridge" if that's additional help.

We got help from a friend later and retrieved the canoe (316) with a combined age of 144. I can be reached at wjw60@yahoo.com if the paddle shows up.
