How Did It Go?

Post your favorite canoe race experiences whether you paddled the Kenduskeag or were a spectator/vulture earlier today.

Who knows - some of these stories might actually be true!

What a great day! I didn't make it bought it at six mile falls aka jaws got me but my fiancé finished. This was his first time doing the kenduskeag. I'm so proud of him and I owe a huge thanks to my mom who drove all over town looking for him because he did flip not at six mile falls (gigling at the thought) and his walkie talkie is now a sponge.
Thanks to all the volunteers who helped me find him. You guys and gals are the best. This race wouldn't be as great as it is without you. See you next year and the doc says my ankle isn't broken just sprained again LOL.

argghh, matey! the pirates made it through this year! got wet just above the main rapid at 6-mile and then got straightened out just to get hung up on a rock for what seemed like a minute, but was probably only 15 seconds on the main rapid. Took on a lot of water through shopping cart, but remained upright! great race this year. see you in 2010.

We were boat #348. We blew it at Jaws; hit the line what we thought was perfectly until we hit rocks at the bottom and got pinned badly. Filled up with water, had to drag the sinking canoe to shore, all bad for us but great for the "Vultures!"

We sank at Shopping Cart kinda on purpose because by then we knew we were not going to win so I figured might as well entertain the crowd. I gave the "Full ahead" command and we aimed straight for the nastiest-looking hole. Filled up with water, flipped, swam, and had a blast doing so.

Mike, I'm really hoping you were at Shopping Cart taking pictures when we went through there because my friends missed us. No video this time for the website, sorry.

what a great day! water was low but fun all the same. I had the Peace boat and was able to finish. we took our time and enjoyed our day. wasn't in it to win it just wanted to finish. We made it through jaws just to flip close to the end. probably could have avoided it but didnt care. great thanks to the rescue folks for doing their part And thanks to all the people who seamed to enjoy our boat. made all the prep work worth it to hear how much it was enjoyed. We'll be back next year hoping for a little more wild ride.

Well, it was my first time with this race and whitewater, same with my partner. We got hung up for a second at 6 mile falls but made it through bottom down. did really good through most of the except we failed to negotiate a rock and got hung up and swamped, was able to get the canoe up on top of it and bailed out. after that the only problem was we took on some water over the bow because the forward flotation chamber got filler with water due to a hole. All in all I think we did great for beginners started 494 and finished 375

I had a great time! Much slower then last year and i dumped it on Jaws for everyone to see!

Hoping to find someone that got some pictures (Number 167 - two tone blue kayak, yellow spray skirt, and Boston Bruins Helmet) of me flipping at jaws.

Got home sunday and went for a nice 3 mile paddle on the Lamprey River in Newmarket, NH.

The Lamprey River Race is this Saturday starting in Epping NH. About half the distance of the Kenduskeag, but still a good time.

The Lamprey sounds good, TL. I did see you come through the Shopping Cart with the Bruins helmet, and it did turn some heads because a few of the spectators said "Whoa! That guy caged his head! He must've planned to REALLY wipe out!"
Good stuff.

Hahaha. Actually somehow i forgot my helmet at home and my two friends (the two guys in the blow up raft that finished at about 4pm) were dressed up in costumes, so i stole the helmet to make sure i didnt get Disqualified. But people seemed to like the Bruins helmet, so maybe i will make it a tradition.

Great pictures by the way at shopping cart!
